Retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant · JSOC Special Missions Unit · Tampa Bay, FL

James Zipen brings nearly three decades of combined military and defense contractor experience to SkyNet Defense Technologies. A retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant with 20 years of service — including assignment to a JSOC Special Missions Unit — he is a recognized subject matter expert in unmanned systems threats who was pioneering counter-drone doctrine years before DoD-wide adoption.

Zipen served three consecutive contractor assignments supporting USSOCOM's counter-UAS mission, including roles as CENTCOM C-sUAS Team Lead and JSOC C-UxS Future Operations Lead. He has briefed assessments to the National Security Council, four-star commanders, U.S. Senators, and Members of Congress.

He holds a B.A.S. in Intelligence and Information Operations from The University of Arizona and is completing an M.S. in Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies at the University of South Florida. He holds an active TS/SCI and is based in Tampa Bay, adjacent to USSOCOM headquarters at MacDill AFB.
